The OUTBACK DUO uses the latest 3W super flux LED and optic for its main beam output, offering an extremely bright and highly efficient light source.
The LEDs high efficiency, 100,000 hour lifetime and unequalled shock resistance makes it the perfect choice for portable lighting applications. The unique DUO o-ring sealed, beam selection collar engages with a precision, gold switching contact rotary switch for faultless switching. The collar is easily rotated with the thumb to switch between the 3W main beam, 3W white rod beam and a 1W red or green rod beam. The OUTBACK DUO is precision engineered in the UK and made from an aluminium alloy which offers the best combination of strength, and corrosion resistance. Its extremely tough design & quality components means a torch which you can rely on and will last a lifetime.

Tough polycarbonate light rod is lit by one of the two super-flux LEDs contained within the end-caps. It can be switched to emit a white light output for general space lighting such as tents, caves etc. and a red or green output light (depending on the model) for night vision retainment lighting such as map or star chart reading.

The OUTBACK DUO uses the latest in rechargable Lithium-Ion battery technology as its power source. The lithium-ion battery is the best available mobile battery power source as they offer the best energy-to-weight ratios of all rechargeable batteries at present and do not suffer from the memory effect.

MODEL OPTIONS

The DUO torch is offered in two finishes - natural anodised and a mil spec hard anodised finish for increased protection in tough places. All models feature the 3W white main beam and rod beam and a choice of either a red or green secondary rod illumination. The human eye has two types of sensors — rods and cones. Cones provide the best visual acuity (focus and fine detail), but require good illumination. By contrast, rods are very sensitive at low lighting levels, and hence provide a person's night vision. However the rods which impart night vision take over 30 minutes to adapt fully to the dark. Just a brief exposure to a bright light can "bleach out" the rods and wipe out a person's night vision for many minutes. Rods are insensitive to red though, so by using red light, one can provide enough illumination to see fine detail (for tasks such as reading) without compromising night vision.
Red light has been the traditional choice for retaining your night vision since WWII and is still the best choice when this is a key factor. However green light also offers some advantages in this area as it will allow for differentiation of colours such as yellow and red on a map or chart. Although green light has a greater capacity to affect night vision we have tailored the output intensity to reduce this effect. One more advantage is that animals are indifferent to green light making it an ideal choice when monitoring wildlife.
