Following a few long weeks of wait we're pleased to say our Tree Tent install at The Secret Campsite has had full planning approval. With the Tent structure being suspended, with no foundations and removeable without trace, it didn't actually require planning concent for the build however the limited pitch campsite required permission for the extra pitch and, more importantly, the structure needed the thumbs up from the local tree preservation officer as the pitch would be in an area of protected ancient woodland. Needless to say our lightweight design gained the praise of the officer - our custom made securing bolts inflict minimal damage to the tree, allow growth and don't disrupt cambium layer and the flow of nutrients through the tree. Further the suspended structure and raised entry walkway from the meadow field causes no disruption to the ground flora and fauna.

It's been a great start to our Tree Tent venture this year with our first ever TT build being followed for George Clarke's Amazing Spaces series. George explores the extraordinary world of small builds, where people turn tiny spaces into the most incredible places to live, work and play. He even tries making one of his own.

Tim Bullen and his wife Lisa started The Secret Campsite just outside Lewes, East Sussex earlier this year with a clear remit - to offer a peaceful, tents only campsite for nature lovers, real campers and their families. The campsite is kept car and dog free which enables wildlife to flourish and increases the number of encounters that you and your family will enjoy. It also ensures that it is a safe place for children to roam freely and explore, and has an area of woodland where dens can be built and trees climbed. It was this area of woodland that Tim and Lisa were for people to connect with further - but without cost to the valuable ground flora and anchient trees within - The Tree Tent was the perfect solution.
